Singapore's budget to be presented in Jan -report
Singapore will move forward its budget statement by a month, to January next year, as the country grapples with the prospect of a prolonged economic rut, the city-state's broadcaster quoted the prime minister as saying on Sunday.
The budget, which is usually presented in February by the finance minister, is expected to be expansionary, with fiscal measures to help small businesses and the unemployed, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said, according to Channel NewsAsia.
Some of the measures include ensuring that businesses and government ministries receive financing from banks.
Singapore's economy fell into a recession, shrinking an annualised, seasonally adjusted 6.3 percent in the July-September quarter, advance estimates showed last month.
Singapore will release its final data on third-quarter gross domestic product on Nov. 21 at 8 a.m.
